Ma says…

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Prior to doing the show, no less than the mom-manager gave a stern advice to the rookie Survivor Philippines host, : “Sabi ko sa kanya bago siya umalis, ‘Chard, ‘wag kang pumayag sa papagawa sa ‘yo kung ano-ano ha? Basta mag-host ka lang dun.’” After seeing the pilot episode: “Hindi ako nakakibo sa sobrang kaba ko, grabe. Hindi ako makapaniwala na ginawa ni Richard ‘yun. Nakita ko, parang mamamatay na siya, nakita ko, grabe. Maganda ang kinalabasan, pero ang nerbiyos ko hanggang langit, sobra.” Oops! Before we receive any word from the “monster mom,” these phrases are just excerpts from a Manila Bulletin article.

RG’s Glitz and Glamour Survival

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

by Kapitan Bok Okay, let us set the record straight. Whether we like it or NOT, RG is the host of SP until the finale. No news about him of leaving or quitting the show. No replacement nor demotion that have taken place so far. No voluntary exodus from the island because of injuries or simply he wanted to go home (and opt to host Party Pilipinas instead) . We, netizens already ranted our disappointments of what we expect from a reality show host, especially that we are talking about the most controversial of all shows—Survivor. After PB left for a greener pasture (he is more attached with kinship than heart to heart relationship), we would expect the likes of Ryan Agoncillo or Paolo Abrera or the other RG ,(oops not the twin), Richard Gomez. What can I say about his first week as the new host? Honestly, before the filming of SP, I already conditioned myself to accept the REALITY that RG will be the new pinoy Jeff Probst. If only we can ask favor from Santa , right? But it’s not yet Christmas boys and gals. So we have two options: to watch this season or simply walk out. You can opt to hold on to your wishbone though. We are still free to dream, no matter how impossible. I honestly got dizzy watching him pacing back and forth from the pilot episode. And , hoping that it was just because he was also uber excited like the CA’s, I was then desolated after watching him again on the second day. Oh my. I feel for Princess Snail. She self-declared “lampa” not only towards the show, but some reasons the way she view what life is. This is exactly what I feel about RG ‘s hosting. But unlike snail, am taking the steps slowly but surely (insert very difficult here) while learning to appreciate the host. Besides, from the very beginning, this is a Celebrity Showdown, aight? RG’s Profile Gutierrez is the son of Eduardo P. Gutierrez and Talent Manager, Annabelle Rama and the brother of Ruffa, Rocky, Elvis, and Ritchie Paul.Gutierrez began acting as a child with his twin brother Raymond Gutierrez. He has worked in many movies with his father and his brothers. Richard Guttierez’s first show in GMA-7 is Click.Gutierrez starred in the TV fantasy series Mulawin which aired from August 2, 2004 until March 18, 2005, where he played the lead character Aguiluz…———- nah. Not that one. But these I find interesting: In 2008, he hosted two documentaries for GMA NP & A , Signos: Banta ng Kalikasan and Full Force of Nature which both discussed environmental advocacies. And recently in 2009, he again narrated GMA’s environmental project, Planet Philippines. Did I watch all of these ? No. But technically, he is proficient to take Survivor as his next hosting job. With three documentaries under his belt ( you knoooww), he can ENUNCIATE—in tagalog or English . Hosting is not his forte, but he can. I don’t think it is completely fair and reasonable to do the math of comparing him and PB or Jeff Probst. Nah , this time I am ditching my lousy calculator. Besides, compared to other prospect teeny bopper artists of GMA, I rather choose him since his plus factor is that he is an actor, he might not dictate authority towards the CA’s as we perceive it ( which I admit, PB was able to do that above par) , but still he can act on his narration. Im thankful that it was RG rather than the other stoic host that I know. (DA WHO! ) This is RG’s first hosting job in a reality show . We can’t avoid to pull the strings from him and impose the benchmarks from the past two seasons. This is a celebrity edition by the way, not the usual reality show of Survivor where ordinary persons are showcased. We also have our own version of halyu wave here in Philippines where fan services are served daily. For now, I will resolve in enjoying the show , less the nerve wracking , mind blowing Survivor fever that I came across from the past. The show is not that bad at all. Let us give the SPSC a shot guys. Just my two cents. You can throw tomatoes at me, but make it fresh please. They are good for the skin anyway. :D

Castaway Spotlight: Buwi Meneses

Monday, September 6th, 2010

Beginning today, we will feature a castaway ‘on the spotlight’. We will share info that most of us really don’t know (yet) about them. This article will also be permanently linked to their photo above this website. First of, ironically, is the “Castaway” hitmaker, Buwi. Buhawi/Buwi is the bassist of Parokya Ni Edgar – that we all know. But he is also doing some really great music recently with Franco. The above video is their latest hit, incidentally titled “Castaway.” Buwi was just starting his Fine Arts studies at the University of the Philippines when his mother was diagnosed with cancer. Buwi chose to stop schooling to concentrate on caring for his mother, and at the same time pursue a music career. In mid-2000, Buwi went with his mother to Mt. Fuji where she joined other women with breast cancer from all over the world. Rosa had complications by the time she reached the fifth station, so her son finished the climb for her. Rosa died not long after the trek to Fuji. But Buwi’s commitment to the cause of cancer prevention did not stop there. He donated a big amount of his earnings to his dad’s non-government organization, Philippine Breast Cancer Network, to build an alternative medicine health center. The facility was founded by his father, Danny Meneses, for the prevention and early treatment of breast cancer. Parokya ni Edgar donated their prize money from the TV program “Game KNB?” to the health center’s funds. His father’s high school classmates and fraternity brothers also supported the project. These days, “Mr. Suave’s” songwriter focuses his attention on his family – his wife and 2 young sons… not until he was re-called to join Survivor Philippines Celebrity Showdown. – your SuperHero Admin

Ep. 6: Haircuts for Immunity in next TC

Monday, September 6th, 2010

by Zalds We are still in the Tribal Council.. and RG says, “Let’s make this Tribal Council more interesting.” Up for grabs: Immunity in the next TC, 100k pesos and Pizza for everybody. The challenge: short-short haircut for female, skinhead haircut for male and removal of other body and face hairs. For the males, 6 voluntered to partake in the challenge prompting a fire-making challenge to determine the winner. First up was Jon, Trisza and Buhawi. Jon won. Second group was supposed to be Akihiro and Doc Ferds but Aki backed out. Thus, final match was between Jon and Doc Ferds which Jon still won. For the females, it was initially Moi who voluntered but later on, she has to face Mykah in a fire-making challenge which she won. After the fire-making match, everybody then partake in eating the pizza. The barber arrives and Moi & Jon went thru with their haircuts. After their haircuts, RG awarded the immunity bracelets to Jon and Moi. He then bid farewell to the CAs, “May the good spirits protect you..” Back at camp, the emotions starts to sink in, first with Mykah. Elma narrates that she woke up because of the cries of Mykah. Mykah was crying not just because of the cold BUT because she wanted to quit. Elma to Mykah: “Tiisin mo na lang” Karen (Alaskadora): “Kung gusto nyang umuwi, di umuwi sya..” Later on, Buwi came and comforted Mykah. But later still, as he is preparing to re-ignited the campfire, Doc Ferds noticed that Buwi too is crying. Buwi: “Na-emotional din ako dahil hirap din..” Morning came, the tribe has decided to eat 1 chicken. Karen, for her part and because of her choice, does not want to eat the chicken. Her analogy was something like she will eat whatever the chicked has ate. But Aki came with some seafoods (lil oysters and crabs) that will satisfy Karen’s hunger. After the meal, Trisza requested Aira to make her some undies which Aira gladly do so. Later on and to kill boredom, the female CAs decided to ramp as models for the benefit of their male counterparts. During the “ramping”, Trisza blurted a comment while it was Karen’s turn to “ramp”. This displeases Karen after their funfare. But she choose to be quiet about it rather than confront Trisza. Karen: “Ngayon pa kayo mag-eepal eh ang daming camera.. mamaya na lang”. Trizsa gamely concurred, “sige.. mamaya na lang.” Meanwhile, Aki and Doc Ferds went around and got some coconuts for the group to drink and ate. Aki takes up the moment to strike an alliance with Doc Ferds. When they arrived to the group, Aki invited them to go swimming. Along the way, Ervic strikes up an alliance with Mico while Aubrey relates some alliance strategy during her interview. BUKAS: Rewards challenge, but first.. the division into 3 tribes.
